Austrian specialties and the country's presidential election on 4th December
By Fashionoffice's publisher Karin Sawetz
Since the last two weeks not only winter markets with mainly regional specialties have popped up all around the country; Austrian specialties are a theme after the people had become more and more concerned about the influences of other countries' politics on them and how Austrian politicians will represent national interests in today's world which has been shaken up (latest events: Brexit, Trump). The whole world is in a tightly woven net of contracts and agreements - if it's about trade or the collaboration of the military. Even Austria as relatively small country has its positions and specialties like in the case of military: Austria is neutral and follows the duty to help but doesn't join war operations.
The thoughts about the self-image of Austrians have been reinforced by the upcoming presidential election on 4 December. The two candidates can't be compared to the US candidates nor is one of them similar to the recently elected new US president. Austria can't be compared at all with the United States. Austria has a completely different situation (begins with the geography, neighboring nations) and absolutely other problems which can be discussed by the candidates - as far as they do that in the ongoing race in front of TV cameras, in interviews with journalists, experts as well as through their social media channels. People need once more a president who can be trusted and works for the citizens. Currently, the question is who of the two candidates will fulfill these demands best. The results of opinion polls show perhaps the one or the other as the citizens' favored president - but who believes these results any longer? People also know that decisions after emotions or populist answers to difficult questions are campaigning strategies which seem rather blending out reality than enlightening minds for finding solutions for a better future. And even blaming the other to be a populist can be part of a strategy. Around two weeks are left for listening closely the arguments of the candidates for their standpoints. These arguments have to be weight into the decision before the cross is made beside the name of the possible next Austrian president who will have a historical responsibility in challenging times.

On 4th December, the Austrians will vote for the second time for their new president. I will give my vote to the one who offers the best recipes for smart structures for a fair, multifaceted society in a secure country. It won't be easy making up my opinion for setting the cross.
