"We waited so long for a sign of intelligent life in outer space and have overseen that the Illumis have been already living among us on earth."
Demian walks through the spaceship. It's a newer model with self adjusting rooms and corridors where the nine members of the research team have lived since they left earth six months ago. The video communicator-drone follows him and creates a film-like live stream with various close ups of Demian with changing focus on the face, his wild hair, beard, or his fine slender but strong hands. The drone program edits the stream in thriller-mode selected by Demian to match the visual dramaturgy of the live video better with the occasion. The drone program cuts the video and includes scenes showing the ship inside in changing wide angle perspectives, recordings captured by the outer space cameras, and pictures of the Illumis such as the entities are called by the ship's crew. The AI of the drone listens to the words of Demian and runs its own direction with matching pictures.
Naomi appears on the video screen of Demian's eye glasses. "Why have you named them Illumis." His mother has called the still living members of the research team of the first hours of the space travel era to her house for a secret meeting. The four women and three men are all in their 80ies. Demian has contacted them before the government gets wind of the encounter with the intelligent beings. He doesn't trust the bureaucracy, the military and especially in the case of the Illumis certainly not religious associations which could apprehend them as divine existence and try to instrumentalize the finding.
"It was pure coincidence. We made a failure with one of our data glasses for scanning the atmosphere of planets. Then they were visible and appeared as illuminated blind passengers on board. Unbelievable! Therefore the name Illumis and with reference to the secret society Illuminati. We had no clue that they have been living all the time among us."
Naomi enabled the video drone for the automatic direction of the live stream. She chose the less dramatic program 'documentary'. The drone began to check each of the guests and captured their faces with subtitle showing the name and function in the team.
When Naomi begins to talk, the drone positions itself in a distance of two meters in front of her face.
"You said that they are living on earth. How did you find that out? You and your crew have been in space over months now. Can you communicate with them so precisely? Are the definitions of time and space comparable?"
Now that she has finished her question, the flying camera widens the distance to her face and films in a wide angle the group of "Gen 1" of space research. The camera pans over the old faces of the participants. They started the space program with the aim to explore space not only for finding another planet where humankind can live after the population numbers have increased continuously on earth. It was rather unlikely that humans are the only intelligent beings. Secretly, they were more interested in proving this assumption than in actually encountering intelligent extraterrestrial life. The wrinkled faces show the furrows of concern about the details to come.
